Alexa Blampied’s, inspirations behind Aurum of Jersey’s 7th annual bespoke collection for 2011/2012 is Art Deco and the Golden Age of Glamour.
Art Deco is undoubtedly one of the most enduringly popular design styles of the modern age. It is generally considered to be a movement that flourished between the two World Wars.
The stage sets and costumes for the Ballets Russes with its emphasis on Persian and Oriental motifs, foreign travel facilitated by the Machine Age and the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb were all strong influences. Artisans of the era looked to and were influenced by Hollywood and its stars. Cubist painting with its division of form into flat and overlapping geometric images provided a major source of inspiration
